Spartan Power Boat Club pulls off their first successful Fun Run at the Barnegat Bay Marina in Brick, NJ.
The newly formed Spartan Power Boat Club was joined with 35 + performance boats for their first Annual Fun Run on Labor Day Weekend.
Initially scheduled for Friday as to not interfere with participant's weekend plans over the weekend had to be rescheduled for Sunday due weather conditions.
As it turned out, Del Flores the mastermind behind forming the new club had many more attend then expected. Realizing the main obstacle now was where to put so many boats at the Joey Harrison's River House in Forked River lunch stop.
As departure left the marina precisely on time at 10:30 AM, the boats shortly arrived at the Joey Harrison's River House approximately 11:30 AM.
Del Flores covered in his announcement at the Driver's Meeting that everyone needed to be on their best behavior while running their boats safely in the Run and that they needed to be patient when it comes to the docking. Needless to say, the limited docking at Joey Harrison's River House filled up quickly but it was managed very well and organized. The smaller of the boats were squeezed in to the launching well where not even one larger boat would have fit it in. South Winds Marina next door was kind enough to accept the overflow of boats and all were docked safely and ready for a nice relaxing lunch at Joey Harrison's River House.
On the return trip back to Barnegat Bay Marina, a BBQ had been provided by Shore Points Catering of Pt Pleasant Beach.
Food, Beverages and DJ Entertainment were all sponsored by Barnegat Bay Marina.
To add a little bit of Fun to the Run, Poker Hands were dealt at the end of the day. It was a non-mandatory buy-in of $50 per boat to purchase a hand of cards. Prizes were awarded out to 1st Jeff Ackerman ,2nd Tom Tallman & 3rd Mike McKeon for the best hands. A portion of the proceeds went to a Cancer Treatment Center in which Barnegat Bay Marina is going to match the proceeds raised for the charity.
In addition to the winning prizes, Barnegat Bay Marina provided Fuel Discount Cards to all three winners.
All the way around, this brand new marina in the process of being restored since being destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and a newly formed Spartan Power Boat Club is simply making everything great again!
Stayed tuned, as more exciting things will be coming from both the marina and the power boat club in the near future.
