2016 WINTER STORM JONAS

January 23, 2016  •  5 Comments

This storm had to be the most extreme conditions I have ever shot in.  Wind, Hail, Sand and Salt Water pounding hard with predictions of over 50 mph gusts.

This storm's venture was more about trying to learn something from it.  The key focus is the steel wall  that runs along Mantoloking and Brick. In comparison, I shot Bay Head which has a rock wall.  There is quite a difference in energy reduction of the waves landing on the beach after viewing the video .

Thank you for your comments.
I have a gallery for Super Storm Sandy that includes extensive coverage of the NJ coast line before and after.
I shot from Island Beach to Sandy Hook 48 hours prior to it's arrival then chartered a helicopter a few days later to shoot from Island Beach to Keyport. No larger project I have ever worked on and continue to shoot the rebuild even today.

Thanks for your incredible video...
Sadly until actually visualized on film, some people are just reluctant to believe the forces in nature. Erosion all along the Atlantic Ocean coastline is the new norm, despite those who belive otherwise. To replenish the beaches after each episodic storm isn't cost effective management. We need some real solutions that will enable the beaches to available for future generations. Sandy wasn't a one time deal.
As a true amateur photographer, I applaud your skills and determination to capture the momentum!

Shark, this is truly amazing footage. Nice to see you're doing well in your career. We used to slug around the yard together at Proroc back in the day. Great job on this!

Thank you Sarah.

The observable difference in the wave action - Mantoloking wall and Bay Heads' rocks is dramatic! Thanks for showing.
