2017 Summer Vacation
A last minute decision had been made late Friday morning to take a road trip with my wife, youngest of 2 daughters and two dogs and head north to Buffalo where we planned to stay for a long weekend. In general , I always wanted to get up there to show my daughter Niagara Falls and were almost going to do it last year but it wasn't in the cards. This year an additional reason for me to go was to pay my respects to the loss of Ray Nuchereno. Having covered the Buffalo Poker Run for 5 years I come to learn Ray was a huge supporter of the event and his loss sent shockwaves through the power boating community.
While I had no intention initially to shoot the event, plans change by the minute with me and the family and when it was decided to skip breakfast and wait for lunch, that opened up the opportunity to go watch the boats go by.
Giving additional thought of some of my best customers participating and one with a new boat, I would be a fool not to be shooting while I had the chance.
As you will see in the galleries, this was no attempt to actually cover the event, as Elite Poker Runs had already secured a photographer and they had all the coverage they would need, so I simply shot the first pack of boats that had gone by and well over 100 shots of the general public boaters running on the Niagara River that day. It was only a brief glimpse of what was taking place that day, but to be able to meet up with people I have not seen in a few years made one part of it worth the trip.
Perhaps one day I will go back to shooting to what people got accustomed to with my event coverage, but for this year at least, this past weekend was just a little getaway time...
